Terry Ann will teach from her texts On the Road to Naropa: My Love Affair with Jack Kerouac (Inkling Press) and TOKAIDO (Red Moon Press). After a nourishing lunch sources from local ingredients participants will create a small hand-made grimoire, Terry Ann will bring many examples of small books for inspiration, and lead you through the book-making process.

Less is More: A Love Haiku Workshop

Learning from classical Japanese masters and contemporary poets, Terry Ann Carter will lead a writing workshop on love haiku. Beginning with the basic elements of North American English haiku, then moving to haiku with a theme of love, this workshop will appeal to beginners as well as more advanced poets. 
Techniques, style, and editing skills will be covered in the morning workshop. After lunch, participants will make a “Book of Hearts” for favourite haiku.

Join poets Terry Ann Carter, Rachel Enomoto, and Kozue Uzawa in a discussion of the Japanese poetic forms: haiku, tanka, and haibun. Terry Ann Carter will read from her new book, Tokaido (Red Moon Press), which uses the poetic form haibun to traverse the Tokaido, the ancient pilgrimage between Kyoto and Tokyo, its fifty-three stations, and artist Hiroshige’s eponymous woodblock prints.
